World's most prestigious math contest for high school students.

The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is a prestigious annual global competition for high school students, held since 1959, where teams from over 100 countries compete in advanced mathematics. Countries select their teams through national competitions. The IMO is a self-governing organization that promotes mathematical talent, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, and its problems go beyond the standard curriculum.

Key Aspects of the IMO

  • High-Level Competition:

It's the premier math competition for high school students, challenging them with complex problems in algebra, combinatorics, geometry, and number theory.

  • Global Participation:

The event is held annually in different host countries, with over 100 countries participating.

  • National Selection:

Each participating country conducts its own national competitions to select a team of top-scoring students to represent them.

  • Skill Development:

The IMO focuses on fostering mathematical reasoning, logical ability, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

  • A-Level Focus:

The problems are significantly more challenging than typical school-level mathematics, often covering topics from the high school curriculum but demanding a higher level of sophistication.

  • History:

The first IMO was held in Romania in 1959, initially for Eastern Bloc countries.

  • A-Level Focus:
